Amuse & Unsworth - Dinner Theater Under the Stars!  -  Greg Perry from the Mercury Players and Alex Gallacher Shawnigan Players will perform a series of short sketches that are light, upbeat and humorous, from the script by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore called "Good Evening". Merridale Cider, Bistro, Bakery & Deli - We are all about the art here at Merridale. Learn something new this Cowichan Wine Festival Season and join in the many activities we have planned at the distillery or on the ciderhouse lawn.
Art in the Distillery – noon and 2:00, Saturday and Sunday -  Join Rick Pipes and Laurent Lafluent as they teach you the art of how to taste the essence of our spirits and how they are made right here in our own distillery. Develop a distinguishing palate for spirits, tasting Cowichan Brandy, Stair’s Brandy, Malt Whiskey, Vodka and more. Tours and tastings will be given at noon and 2:00 on Saturday. Reservations for the distillery tour are required but there is no charge for this event.
Art in the Cellar – throughout the day Saturday and Sunday - Meander through our fermentation and bottling room to learn the art of cidermaking on our self-guided cellar tour. Gather your questions along the way, and then join us at the ciderbar where our knowledgeable staff will provide you with answers and tastings of our traditional cider line-up and fortified nectars. There is no charge for our self-guided tours. Cider tastings are $5 per person with all proceeds donated to a local charity.
Art of the Cocktail – noon until 4:00 Saturday only - Journey into the art of the cocktail with mixologist Janice Mansfieldmixing some of her tantalizing House Made bitters and syrups with our lineup of products to create some most delicious mini-cocktails for you to enjoy. Tasting fee of $5 waived with purchase of spirits.

Bakery and Ice Cream counter are open – Baker Alain has many tempting morsels to nibble on while you walk around the orchard. Try one of our new apple fritters or bear claws. Or, cool off with your favourite ice cream served at the deli counter.
Faery Hunt for the kids – There's always something for the kids to do. Grab a map and take a tour. Your kids will be enchanted and busy, while you have the chance to relax and savour the experience.

 

Pizza Night featuring 'Sets in the West' – Sunday, September 15 starting at 5:00pm  -Join us on the deck at the ciderhouse for the last evening of the festival to enjoy brick oven pizzas and fresh salads. Live music begins at 5:00 with no coverage charge, but don't forget to call and reserve a table, our pizza nights fill up fast! This is a family-friendly event, with local favorites Sets in the West bringing their infectious Celtic/East Coast sound to our patio. Don't forget your dancing shoes!

Rocky Creek Winery

Saturday, September 14 at 1pm - Special Opportunity ~ Panel Discussion At Rocky Creek Winery.  Our region is growing and developing its own identity and we have found someone that can lead us in a great panel discussion based on his experiences.  Terry David Mulligan of Tasting Room Radio will be leading a panel discussion with winemakers from Rocky Creek, Blue Grouse and Unsworth.    To round out the discussion, also attending is Troy Townsin and Treve Ring, all experts in our wine industry.   This is a great opportunity for people to see our valley through a different set of eyes with Terry David Mulligan and his world travels in viticulture.   “We are thrilled that we can have someone of this reputation to come to our winery to discuss our island identity.”  Linda, owner states.  “We are looking at a second generation and developing this region as a world player, this should be a fun experience.”  Terry David Mulligan brings not only his knowledge gained from years of interviews with winemakers, growers, writers and owners; but also his own sense of FUN.  This will be no ordinary panel.  Terry is secretly hoping that there’ll be punches thrown, at the very least chairs.

Rocky Creek Winery is also hosting all day wine tastings and our theme this year is “Art is Here”.  We have the Ladysmith Art Council coming to showcase all the artists and their work around the winery.  They will be doing plein aire in our beautiful gardens for anyone!  We will be having a seminar each day at 2 pm about the arts.  This is a great chance to ask questions, discover or learn something new.  Also, music is art and the Robert Stitt Jazz Trio returns to stimulate your senses.  Enjoy the experience amongst beautiful gardens, sit out with a glass of wine or flights of wines.  We will also have our sparkling and cocktail bar again this year.

3rd Annual James Barber Fundraiser - 12 - 4pmCowichan Chefs Table and invited BC chefs are hosting this culinary showcase in honour of the late James Barber, Canada’s Urban Peasant. This year’s James Barber Fundraiser has the theme of savoury, spicy & sweet dishes made with local apples. This fundraiser for Providence Farm will feature stations throughout the historic buildings offering culinary delicacies paired with local beer, wine and cider.   Tickets are $100. Guests will be provided a $50 tax receipt. Beverages are included.
